Hey LS,

Are you gunna decap-i-tate her?? Looks like you're gunna have to to get to the transom. It will be much easier to do. Or you could look into Seacast.

I'm just sayin...:D

mthuirer - Thanks, I need all the encouragement & advice I can get.

Woodonglass - Just the splash-well, cut & then replace & glass, not the whole cap. I pondered long & hard on this decision.

coolness - Thanks & you guessed it :D , 5 points to you..

Yeah well I think based on what I can see you are probably doing the right thing. Looks like your side walls and bulk heads are attached to the cap and you would have to do some serious cutting to get her off. This guy did what you are contemplating and it turned out great.

Plans for cuts on the splash-well. After crawling inside & under it; these cuts will/should allow full access to the transom, while limiting the re-glassing to areas that are not as cosmetically critical.. I decided on this cut pattern due to my strong desire not to have to glass the actual cap (short required repair areas)

The leading edge of the splash-well (seen here) is glass over plywood, so I may end up replacing it based on the condition of the wood, once removed.

Any suggestions &/or cautions are greatly appreciated.

Well, this weekends progress (remember, I am not rushing & have other projects as prioritized by SWMBO)

I cut & removed the splash-well, reveling the transom in all its glory. I read some other threads referring to it as a "Wet Sponge" or similar, I had no such luck, nothing to use as a template.

As I ran my hand across it, it basically turned into dust, take a look at this mess...

Here is my new best friend, I call it "Transom in a Bucket" :D

The keel stringer, all but the last couple feet. This was actually more solid than the chine stringers..

A couple shots of the transom (after removed) you can see the last micron of plywood, clinging to the glass (grinding will be fun)

I went to Lowe's tonight & bought a shop-vac & a shop-light. The garage lights were not bright enough to work in the evening, so there was no work after the day-job during the week, but now I can work on her when the wife works evenings.
