Re: 1962 18' Starcraft Questions

Hey, Brad if you need it I can bring in a spare plug :)

So here's the story...ANOTHER ROOKIE MISTAKE. I tool the boat down to a very small, not very popular boat launch ON THE 4TH of JULY to test it for leaks. It tuned out to be very busy and popular that day! So I backed the boat up, started pushing it off the trailer and after a few minutes in the water I noticed that water was pouring into the back. I was so excited for the leak test...I FORGOT TO PUT THE PLUG IN! Lesson learned. After about 20 minutes and many people angry with me because they were trying to pull their boats out of the water, I was finally able to get it half way back on the trailer, pull it out of the water, let it drain and then get it fully back on the trailer. Very stressful first time in the water.

What do you guys recommend for installing foam in the bottom? Spray in foam or cutting sheets to fit?

Brad,

I'll bring in the Epoxy Resin I bought earlier this year to work. I have more than enough for my Lund and your Starcraft.

As said above, use the epoxy resin to seal up the boards and then paint them to protect the epoxy resin from UV.

Give my cell phone a call and remind me to put the epoxy in my truck.

Scott S.

THANK YOU!!! I will repay you with good, Wisconsin micro-brews!

Sheet foam or pool noodles. The spray-in stuff doesn't allow for water to drain to the bilge, unless you cut out channels and stuff.

No spray foam. Use the pink or blue foam sheets from Home Depot/Lowes or pool noodles.

Re: 1962 18' Starcraft Questions

I'm just wondering what others have done trying to restore the windshield on the 62' Holiday? I've come across UPD Plastics, but just can't stomach dropping $400 +shipping on the windshield. Any suggestions on buffing or polishing to get the clarity back in the original? Thanks in advance.

So I haven't been very good lately keeping up with my posts. I have still been working on the boat. I just had it painted and will be posting pictures soon. I received my decals yesterday and put those on last night. Next I am going to start on restoring the windshield and then the flooring. I finally broke down and purchased a boat cover here on iBoats. It's a perfect fit.
