I have a CD19 I use on my little fishing boat. It was down for a month or so, needing new plugs, and I just recently got it running again. However, no water was coming from the exhaust port. I shut it down right away so it wouldn't get too hot, but should it be pumping water immediately upon startup, or does it need to warm up and open up the thermostat before that happens?

should flow immediately. It sounds like you need a new impeller.

Half truth and wishful thinking. There is a water passage leading to the thermostat that could (rarely, unless used in salt water) be plugged. Other than that, you should know that there are two water flow paths through that engine and one path is always open whether the thermostat is open or closed. Meaning the water should flow immediately regardless of thermostat status.

If you are running that thing in a bucket, first make sure it is deep enough in the water. If it is, and no cooling, it's into the water pump you go.
