I purchased a 1962 Evinrude 40 hp outboard motor that has very low usage. Was told it was on a pontoon boat that was stored inside and was not used very often. I am looking at putting it on a 14 foot Grumman Fisherman Utility V. I have heard both sides of the argument on keeping the double pulley steering or upgrading the steering. I Will be running the boat on a river and maneuverability would be a plus speed will be a definite plus. If there’s anyone who can help please do. If there is any way to attach links for parts or kits Would be much appreciated. All I have is the motor nothing else. So I will need everything and if there is any video on hooking this up would be great. This will be my first vintage motor and set up I’m excited so any and all help is grateful. I will also be running a jackplate of a minimum of 5” vertical and setback. Thanks in advance.

Looks like an Electric Shift Model, you are going to need the proper Evinrude or Johnson Control Box. a 62 also requires a Junction Box
Parts Lists. Says Johnson, but only the Cowl and Remote is different. They didn't have a Listing for the Electric Shift Evinrude. I will include the Control from the 1963 Evinrude

I would recommend using the newer Push-Pull single cable system. Any of the Companies that make the system should be able to supply the Attachments for both the Motor, and for anchoring the Cable to the Hull.

So what do I need to order. So one of the two links is the push pull system? I am boat illiterate. If the push pole system is what I need then that’s what I will get but I don’t understand anything you were talking about it sounds to me like you gave me two different links which is two different options then you followed that with the last paragraph of a your opinion you would choose the push pole??? All I need is the links For the updated steering system for a 1962 Evinrude 40 hp motor. Again all I have is a boat and a motor I don’t even have a cover to that motor. I just need to know that whenever I finish ordering that I have everything I need to make that motor work as in steering it runs now

I gave you parts list for the engine. I used the Johnson version for the majority of it, as that site didn't have an Electric Shift Evinrude, then I included the Evinrude Control box from the 1963 listing.

As for steering systems, contacting a Local Marine Dealer would be a Option.

Teleflex makes many systems. Contact them
