You don't think water is getting to the thermostat?..... Remove the thermostat cover to find out for sure.

What makes you think water isn't getting to the thermostat? If indeed no water is getting to it.... double check your water pump installation work.

The housing for the thermostat was dry I'm not sure if the heat of the engine just evaporated it and about how much water should be comming out the exhaust hole to know if water pump is functioning properly?

The exhaust relief hole that is roughly halfway down that long exhaust housing..... water should shoot out of that in a heavy quantity and, as JFK would say... with great vigor!

Keep in mind that the water level must cover the water pump..... the water level must be approximately 3 or 4 inches above the joint where the lower unit bolts up to the long exhaust housing.

I definitely had the water high enough it just didn't seem like water was Shooting out with great vigor there's not much to the water pump itself I changed the plate and impeller is there more to the pump that I'm not seeing and when I connected to lower unit I made sure the connection to the water tube was sound any ideas I'm stumped and tired tomorrows another day any help would be great thanks for your patience

Is the motor running hot?

It's possible the intake is partially blocked (screen under the plate at the prop) -- more likely if it's a salt water motor, or a river runner (sand). It's somewhat possible to use a modern motor flusher if you take off the rectangular plate above the plate, on the side -- have to cut down the round flusher cup, or buy a square on. But that aside, you can use a hose to get some water in there, maybe using the male end of a quick disconnect -- try that for cleaning out the foot including the intake by the prop (motor off). Similarly, you can flush down from the t.stat housing -- note where the water exits and see if it comes out of the exhaust port on the leg with "vigah."

I checked everything and there's no blockage I'm now wondering if it could be the exhaust gasket?? The old one was disintergrated and I cut one out from gasket paper you get at local automotive stores the gasket paper was no where as thick as the original do you think that might be the problem I ordered the right gasket this morning. Any thoughts would be appreciated
