That's a good idea with the silicone. I've been carefully plucking off the old plastic thingamagigs and reusing them. They're not very flexible anymore though.

Hi P.O.N.Y,
Do you have any pictures of the forward end of the cowl? My cowl for my '63 Fastwin looks identical to your Fisherman. Problem: There is a 'hook' or an 'arm' on the forward end of the cowl that secures it in place. This is broken off on mine. I want to repair it / fabricate a new piece, that will look and function like the original, I just do not know what it looks like!
Thanks-

My Father-in-law bought a five-half Fisherman about sixty-two or three.Im the only one that ever drove it.He gave it to me ten or twelve years ago.I still have it.Probably has not over twenty hours running time. For twenty years, every Saturday(year-round) we would take it to ONE paticular hole, about one-hundred yards, anchor down and spend the whole day.The only problem it ever had,the coils disintergrated.Any green coils will work on it.

This guy is good. He lives in Liverpool near me. I bought two sets fo decals off him and they are absolutely first class! Very highly recommended!

PONY - this project looks brilliant!!! I am going to be doing exactly the same for my 1969 6hp Fisherman. Mine has quite a modern looking cover compared to yours.

What sort of paint are you using? And I assume zinc primer is a must? I was planning on using car body paint.

Keep up the good worka nd I will be following progress closely :)

Cheers, Richie

Very nice. Makes me even more anxious to start the repaint on my newly aquired 64 'rude 9.5. I am going all white with modern decals though, since the 64 'rude pancake motors look fairly modern. I like the look of the new 'rudes...

Thanks Jason. To be honest your "skanky beast" project is still my favorite on the board. I am positive that you 64' rude will look great as well.

Here is the last pic............the vinyl decals. I got them from cutnupvinyl.com. The guy designed them and gave me a price quote before I paid for everything. Paid paypal and they got here 2 days later. They look awesome. I reccoment that site for anyone restoring johnson evinrude decals
A job well done PONY! Tell me, you have done a great job on the old 'rude cosmetically. What did you have to do for the motor mechanically?
I am currently doing the mech. stuff on my 1963 Fastwin, when it is complete I will start the restoration of the paint / decals, etc.

Re: 1962 Evinrude Fisherman Restoration (IT'S COMPLETE!!!!)

Thanks guys

Yellowstone- mechanicaly this motor was in fairly good shape. I got a box of "goodies" for this thing in the garage. (Fuel lines, rewind cord, spare gearcase, spare skeg, complete ignition system). There was a carb kit in there, so i rebuilt the carb. Normaly I would replace the water pump/impellor but it was just replaced last spring. I cleaned the points and made sure everything was gapped correctly. I put new plugs in, and changed the lower unit lube. Then hooked it up to a tank and fired her up. My throttle was off just a little and the timing wasnt advanced enough to spark at first...............once I sorted that out, this thing starts on pull number 2. First pull when warm. :D

This project was incredibly rewarding and tons of fun. I am VERY pleased with the results. Hope you guys like it too. BTW, next spring I may be re-doing a 66' 18hp
