I am new to the outboard engine... I know that you have a 24:1 mix... What kind of oil do you mix? The old guy that had the boat/engine past away, and bought it off his family. They had no idea what oil to use... Somebody told me 30 wt, but that seemed heavy to me.

Same for the gear oil also...

I just want to make sure I have the right oils going in...

Use TCW-3 2-cycle outboard oil - available at Walmart in gallons for about $12. Mix 24:1 gas/oil.

That was all that was available in 1962. SAE 30 was the recommended oil. The newer 2-cycle oils are better and smoke less.

The lower unit oil is 90W gear oil. Using the marine version in 80-90W also available at Walmart or other such stores is the prefered lube now.

Re: 1962 Evinrude

Is the champion J4C spark plug the best to use for this engine?

The engine is a 62' Evinrude 75 hp StarFlite 50931/05170
