Finally got the water pump working great cleaned out the Chanel's behind the head and also cleaned behind the exhaust manifold now I'm getting great water flow up through the thermostat and out exhaust. I'm now noticing that the motor produces a lot of oil scum in the tank I'm running 24 to 1 is this normal? And she smokes a lot mostly at lower speeds, Seems to go away when I increase the throttle. Any thoughts would ease my nerves thanks.

Oil scum in tank is normal. If it hasn't been run in a while, it will smoke. Get her out on the water and give her a good run - that should reduce the smoking.

You might as well get used to the reality that the oil you put in the gas has to go somewhere. It either burns (makes smoke), or it goes on out the exhaust (makes scum in a barrel). More realistic, it does both.

24:1 is right. When out on the water, let the motor warm up and fine tune the mixture needles. Running at or around WOT, adjust the h.s. needle for best running. Stumbles if too rich (counterclockwise), and stalls or sneezes if too lean. After setting the h.s. needle, throttle down to idle while in gear -- turn clockwise (leaner) in small increments until the motor sneezes or stalls, then turn counterclockwise approx. 1/4 turn -- should be close to the final setting. Alternatively, rotate c.clockwise until the motor stumbles (too rich), then set at the midpoint between too rich and too lean.

You apparently had some water blockages that have been cleared. Is the temp in the proper range (surface temp on top of head 130F or so -- well under 160F)? 160 will burn your hand. If too cold, the motor will not run cleanly.
