Just got this motor and am having a hard time getting it to idle. Start perfect runs well on the water but can not get it to idle. I don't have to have the gas on very much but just cant let go of the throttle. I have attempted to adjust both the idle adjustment knobs on the tiller handle and what i believe to be the needle on the carb. I am not by any means well versed boat motors or technical terms so please help me :)

Also, this thing smokes a lot. I know that the gas to oil is supposed to be 25:1 but I mean its like a fog machine. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I had neighbor suggest running some sea foam through a tank of gas and see if that straightens it out. It just seemed a bit to easy..

Thanks,

Tim

Carb probably needs cleaning/rebuilding. Not a difficult job - get a carb kit with float and make sure to clean under the welsh plug on top of the carb - that controls the idle. Those motors do smoke alot. It may clear up a bit once you run it awhile. Running some Seafoam through won't hurt anything, but if you think it smokes now, wait til you do that!
