well i have this merc500 1962. i was wondering is it hard to find parts for mercury older outboards then evinrude or johnson etc? i was reading and this guy said u had to have to reaplce the water pump impeller and that the motor wasnt userfriendly. and i was talking with ym neighbor. he said that when he was a kid he had to replace that water pump like 3 times in a summer so lol... and is it harder to find parts like from a dealer or possibly napa?

Great motors! The 4-cylinder 50s are truly one of the great designs of all time.
I think they had the simple, no special tools required pump housing by 1962. As for replacing pump 3 times in a summer, I would guess he was either running it through the sandbars every day, or was one of those guys who started his motor on the trailer before launching. Absolutely no reason to replace it three times a season unless being abused...
Many parts still readily available. Some as close as your Merc dealer or local NAPA. Harder to find parts can be had through oldmercs.com...

If Bass Pro is a legit Mercury dealer, then they SHOULD be able to get the parts for you. Whether you can convice the guy at the parts counter to look them up for you, well that's where your people skills will come in. Same goes for NAPA, too. Many of their counter guys don't even know they have a marine catalog. If they won't look up the parts, ask to see the catalog yourself. You can also look stuff up on the Sierra Marine website - they supply the parts to NAPA and they actually keep the part numbers. Sometimes it helps to go in with the part numbers in hand...
