I have a couple quick questions for this motor.
Firstly its mod and ser number are:
Mod# CG18737D
Ser# 26x854903

Questions I have are

Whats the oil/gas ratio for it? I have found differing recommendations and I am hesitant to blindly mix some gas up, I have started it with a 50:1 mix for my 65 johnson 9.5 sea horse.
And does anyone know the tune up specs, ie point gap and sparkplug gap?

Thanks in advance :)

That's a 1961 model, made by Gale. The model number actually starts with GG, not CG.

The fuel:eek:il ratio should be 24:1. Don't run it on 50:1.

Points gap is .020. Spark plug should be a Champion J4C or J6C, gapped at .030.

The motor shares parts with OMC outboards of the same vintage, so coils, etc. are easy to find. I'm not sure exactly which model that 15hp matches on the OMC side, though.

THank you for the fast reply, maybe someone will chime in on where there might be parts diagrams on the web?

The Gale 55 12D11 to 59 12D18 and 60 15D10 to 63 15D15 are listed with the 55 to 67 15,18 and 20hp E/J motors. In my aftermarket manual.

Fellow Gale boater.

Be careful, I have run into problems trying j/e parts with my gale. mine is a 53 but the gales are all the same, they didn't use all the same parts they didnt have the same sellers they didnt update their part#s, you can't count on everything matching up. A grain of salt with every part you order. best thing to do is find a tune up manual for that year. even an owners manual would help and see if you can salvage the parts you have. Maybe find a parts motor. best of luck. oem parts are your friend remember that.

happy boating.
