I have a 1962 sea king and either I don't know to put it in gear or there is something wrong. Any advice would be extremely helpful

Shift lever on the side of motor. It would be alot easier to help if you gave a serial number and/or horse power. 1962 should be a Gale but a serial number would really help.

That model number brings up some confusion. It is a 15hp, right?? Head gasket is part number 203247. See your local Evinrude dealer. Take the part number with you because he probably doesn't have the book.

18734B is a Sea King number I,m thinking you may have transposed a number.
A 18743b is a 40 hp.
Normally the first two Gale numbers are the hp. No 18s ever. near as I can tell in 62 there was a 3,5,15,25 and 40.

18734C is a 1963 15hp. That is what led me to conclude the "B" is a 1962. The "26X in the serial number verifies it indeed is a 1962. But 18734 does not show up in the 1962 list. A picture would clear up the matter immediately. There are more than a few 1960-ish Sea King models that do not exist in the official Gale service manual list. That was when Gale was about to cease production (1963).
