I have been wondering about my carb for the last few years. I searched for the answer but I have never found it. My carb float cover has a hole in each throat. (This is not the cluster of holes located in the bottom portion of the carb throat.) I would assume that this is for fuel or air to enter the carb. The hole leads to a chamber that is accessible by removing the lead shot from the carb. Inside each chamber is a fine wire that has a bend at one end. It looks like a paper clip that has had one arm straightened out. When pressure is applied to the chamber, the wire protrudes out of the hole and into the carb throat. Does anybody know the purpose of this wire? Is it supposed to better separate and atomize the fuel that flows from the hole? Or is it supposed to cut off air flow from the hole after a certain pressure is reached? I am not at home now, but I can post a pic later on if necessary.

It is called an air restriction wire. I don't remember it's exact function. Maybe I can look it up if you are really interested.

I guess curiosity kills the cat. I just like to know how things work, especially those things that I put a LOT of blood, sweat and tears into (not to mention loads of money).
