My folks bought this engine new in 1962 or 1963 from Sears, I believe. They remember it as being a 5 hp model.

Model No.: J9 1106
Serial No.: 30620

I would appreciate answers to the following questions. I really want to get this going again.

1) What spark plug does this motor use?
2) Where can I buy a new fuel pump diaphragm? I really need this.
3) Can I get a new points and condensor somewhere? If so, who deals in these old parts?
4) The original fuel tank says to mix the oil 30:1. Should I use this mixture ratio with the new oils of today or use less oil?

Thanks to all those who respond.

Jet, Your motor is indeed a 5hp.
Old plug number J12J I believe is now J12C
gapped at .025.Points gapped at.020.
Stick with 30:1 mix.Use tcw3 rated oil.Your motor may use bushings and wont take kindly to too lean an oil mix.My service manual says 4ozs.per gallon.Thats 32:1.
Not sure about parts.power head parts you might find at a lawn mower repair. In my manual Eska and
Clinton lower units appear very similar. You mught be able to find parts new and used on ebay.

Thanks a bunch, M.Y. and Spike. Your info has helped a lot. Other than the spark plug, the only thing I really need to get it running now is a fuel pump diaphragm. I think that I could cut a new one out of diaphragm material if I could find some. Does anyone know where one can buy a piece of this material?
