I'm four wires away! and hit a wall. my new project is missing the wires from the motor to the boat, i traced the wires from the key switch and front of boat and installed a terminal strip behind the back seat now i need to know / the motor has a terminal strip and 4 screws where loose, so I'm guessing i need 4 wires to go some where ? the starter is hooked up ground & pos. but the smaller wires are my question, i'm guessing start position on key would go to neutral safety switch and electric choke gets one what else needs wired? and to where? model # 574.60540 serial# 6360453 the loose screws were green/redred/black/white. thanks in advance for any advice.:(:(

Here are two possible/maybes. Main differenace is the location of the ballast resistor. But I don't have a clue whether or not they are applicable to your motor.

me nelder again, got the wiring straitened out thank you very much. everything worked with plug wires disconnected just as it should, horn, choke, starter, lights, i was pumped then no spark! dang! noticed contacts under flywheel and pulled flywheel and cleaned contacts wallah spark and it started and ran!!! and ran good buuuttt, i seen no water out of a telltale (where would i see a water stream? ) and it seemed to be getting hot so i shut her down, next question? how do i know if its cooling and also i have oil coming out of the lower port beneath the exhaust? other than that its a very clean and smooth running motor, any ideas out there?

I don't remember them having a tell-tale. But it should blow water out the exhaust relief on the rear of the motor, about half way down.

Make sure you have the lower unit deep enough in the water. It won't suck it up out of a bucket.

All 2-strokes drip oil. It is the oil that you put in the gas.

I'll give her another go and check for water flow again, how hot should this motor run? or when should i get concerned. there is some oil coming out a small oblong hole just above the prop shaft housing, a concern? thanks FR for the help.

I have no idea what the hole is because I can't see it.
