Running with the head bolts off?? Hmmmmm very interesting. I would say you likely have a lot of salt water corrosion obstructing the water passages, if this is the case. Where the powerhead bolts up, there are some small passages that would plug up very easy, from salt water corrosion.

Got the head off, it was completely full of corrosion. I'm cleaning it now, I will take off the power head tomorrow. I have to wait 8 days for the impeller and head gasket to come in. I'll let you know what I find when I pull the power head.

After cleaning the head with a brass brush and a toothbrush I have found a thin spot on the head. Any options here? Photo0386.jpg Look at the closest side of the right cylinder.

Ouch! I would probably replace the head - looks like it is almost through. Likely to blow the head gasket in short order.

Lacking that, a good welder might be able to put a small bead on there, enough to fill it back to original. Some time with a Dremel and then truing it up on a glass plate with a sheet of sandpaper can clean up a welded repair.

I cant find a new head, I'm going to take it to a machine shop and see what they say. This motor must be fairly low compression, the head gasket appears to be cardboard. If I cant get it fixed I'm going super redneck and using JB weld.

They're also the same head used on the Johnson versions, the JW & JH series...
