the previous owner said motor ran last summer
it started but didn't seem to be getting all the fuel it need, then I looked at the carb while it was running and it was spitting gas everywhere. I took carb apart and found that the float bowl was full of a jelly like consistancy. got it all cleaned out but not it wont start.. I don't think fuel is getting to the top end of the carb?

You really need to get a carb kit, take it completly apart and do it right. They are pretty simple carbs. Be shure to clean all jets completly, blow with air and a small thin wire to poke out the holes with. Them are sweet running motors when set up corectly! I have one.

Make sure you check the high speed jet in the bottom of the float bowl for being clean. It's under the float bowl drain plug.

I got the service manual and rebuilt the carb making sure all the jets and ports were clean. I did NOT remove intake manifold and examine Leaf Plate.
I have 106# of pressure in each cylinder with good spark.
I've gotten her started a couple times and runs for about 30 second then just dies out before warming up and allowing me to adjust the carb..
one thing I just noticed while reading over the manual was I put 1 washer in the HS and 1 washer in the LS instead of putting 1 washer on each side of the 3 packing washers in the LS valve like the manual says. Would that have any effect on the motor staying running..

I'd imagine it would. The manual has a reason for doing it that way. Also the point's/condensors are very important to get set corectly. Did ya synk/link it?

No I haven't taken the flywheel off yet, I was hoping not to. What is sink/link?

You will need the packing under the ls packing nut or she may vibrate loose or run lean.

Sounds like the motor is dying off after the fuel in the bowl burns off, about 30 secs or so.

Fuel pump working? Vent open/clear? Remove fuel line from carb and run motor with line directed into cup. Should be steady stream from hose. If so, likely still issue in carb, or you are losing spark when ignition heats up. Then would be time to pull flywheel.

If coils are original, they are NFG. You should be able to see them without pulling flywheel through inspection port.

thanks Hightrim,
I installed 3 packing washers under the ls nut but also added a plactic washer instead of putting both plastic ones in the hs like the manual says

Fuel pump wasn't working
I pulled the fuel pump apart and cleaned all the valves and ports.. but it still isn't working.
The diaphram was stretched out pretty bad could this be the problem? I can pump the fuel through manually all the way to the carb.

Just FYI: there is no inspection port through the flywheel on this model.

Yup,get a fuel pump kit.
Synk and link is getting the linkages and throttl, timing advance working all together,at the right time,to gain everything the motor was designed for. Your manual should rell ya how to do it. It's really not as complacated as it sounds.
