Not much now that there's a deck in. Don't over trim the motor in to push the bow down, it may make the porpoising worse. The bow can 'bounce' back up when the motor's trimmed to far in.

Outboard pushes bow down, then the water 'pushes' it back up in a never ending cycle.

Balance the weight fore & aft as best you can, forward bias may help prevent it. Does motor have power trim? It's infinitely more adjustable then the tilt/trim pin. Let's you can quickly/easily trim up or down based on water conditions & passenger/gear load. Older OB's w/out power trim can sometimes be made to accommodate the factory power trim from a donor motor.

Jas added it to his Evinrude @the SeaNymph. CMC bracket can be found used, or go new if it's affordable.

Not that I recommend this as a fix to porpoising, put two sand bags in the front of my old fg boat. Is was the only thing that worked for the boat.

No PTT, tried with and without whale tail, changed the tilt on the motor. Sand bags did the trick.

Awesome rebuild!! I have a question. What do you think the differences between a 1963 and a 1965 JetStar are? I recently picked up a 1965 that needs some work, and I'm a newbie to this, both boat rebuilds and Starcrafts .Thanks for your story!

I'm not 100% sure. Windshield, bow light, and size of splash-well changed thru the years...

I finished glassing the floor and foot well last night. For the top of the sole I used, 8.5 ounce Twill E-Glass and 435 resin . Carpet goes down tonight. I found a nice Royal Blue by Lancer at Menards.

Carpeting is down, old wiring is out and new wiring, with fuse block, is in.

I added LED accent lighting under the gunnels and in the bow. This is on an old school, 2 stage, brass switch. First connection is the bow, second is the gunnels.
Also put the running lights on this type of switch. Now I can have an anchor light on by itself or tandem with the navigation lights.

Rebuilt the magneto yesterday with new rotor(magnets) and points. She gained 4mph...

She looks good! If you fix the pull start (it's upside down) there's another 2-3 MPH in her. :joyous: Did you have to give up any family jewels for the magneto parts? Last time I checked mucho dinero!

We are going skiing again later in the week to test some additional props....and waste some fuel having fun.

For some reason every time I get in back to take a pic the handle is upside down and I don't notice until I get home....

GA_Boater, Sorry I missed the question about the mag parts. The end cap cover and rotor assembly are major bucks but the bearings, rotor/stator are cheep, in MERCURY terms. I found NOS points for $11 at an old shop, bearings $16 at Motion Industries, and Rotor(part with the magnets) for $30 at marineengine.com

Well, the Admiral is expecting another crewmen joining us in late February (Confirmed, Its a Boy!). I dont see any major work being done to the Jet Star this winter but tickled about having another fishing partner.
