1963 MFG Seaway boat Steering Wheel Removal

Trying to remove cracked steering wheel from a 1963 MFG boat , Seaway model which has manual drum/cable type steering. Large center nut is removed but steering wheel will not come off. What else could be holding it on? Any suggestions. Thanks.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... It's a tapered shaft,...

Start the big nut on, flush with the shaft, put yer knees under the wheel, applying pressure upwards, 'n Wack the nut...

The wheel should Pop right off...
