For what it's worth.... although the magneto belt has been unavailable since 1992, I still have a few left.

When is the last time anybody has seen a broken one?

They must be getting old, huh? Now you got me to thinking about the timing belt on my car. Thanks, I guess.

Joe, yes I would like to purchase that belt. Mine has some gashes out of it.

I took the lower end down today to replace the impeller, also took the thremostat housing off. Different then what I thought it was going be, all individual pieces. I'm guessing you just replace the heavy spring.

Just have to find the controls now....

Thanks again everyone.

Re: 1963 SpeediFour

Me again, I read somewhere on another post that this motor has 2 thermostats?

The reason I ask, is that I had ran the motor in a 55gal drum for about 5 minutes. Both left and right cylinder banks were hot to the touch. (couldn't hold finger there)

What I thought was the thermo, was underneath the magneto, had two springs, light (guessing for bypass) and heavy which looks like a thermostat assembly.

Does the heavy spring act like a traditional thermostat. If I put it in hot water, should it contract?

Also, does the water dischage exit underwater with the exhaust? The hole in the lower end in upper housing cover that is not under water is a water discharge at higher RPM?

This is only my second outboard, and trying to relate this 63 to the 72 johnson I had at one time.

Thanks Again Everyone!
