The (apparently) original solenoid on my 1964 seems to have failed. I've confirmed 12v to the side leads and turning the key provides no click and no 12v out the lead to the starter. I've tried tapping it to no avail, so I assume I'm stuck with replacing it. This solenoid is mounted in a sealed electrical box under the drivers seat (along with the other electrical components) and I'm unable to find a replacement part # for this specific engine.

Can anyone provide any input on whether a specific solenoid is required or will any 4-post marine solenoid do?

Sierra solenoid should work: 18-5807 (oem 37844).

Do not use an automotive solenoid!

Don't be replacing it on a mere guess. I'll give 90% odds there is nothing wrong with it. Probably cause: Safety switch. But that can be verified also.

Good point, F_R. Is the safety switch you're referring to the thing that prevents it from cranking unless the throttle linkage is pulled back? Or are you referring to something else? Guess I'll need to take my throttle box apart to check that...

Safety switch is on the motor, below the magneto plate.
