1964 3HP Lightwin: Getting the covers to align?

Hi.

I was just given a Lightwin; 3HP 1964. It came to me with the covers removed and I can see why. Alignment is bad at the front. The mixture adjustment is not centered in it's hole and the speed control lever slot is un-even from side to side.

The covers are a casting and the mounts do not appear to allow for any adjustment. Can castings be bent without cracking? There is no evidence of any impact anywhere.

Are there some ways of adjusting the positioning of the cover set that is eluding me?

Thanks, Chuck

Are the screws still in the upper bracket that hold the covers on. If they are push the covers up where you can start the screws to hold the side covers on. Then slam the covers together and put the screws in the bottom part of the covers and tighten up the top ones. This should line it all up.

Yea, these little covers are a bit of a chore to get back on. That stands the reason a lot of them are lost or not present. I just recently acquired a 65 yachtwin and they seem to go on it easily.

boobie....I'm not sure which screws you are talking about.

When you say the screws in the "upper bracket"...are you referring to the ones by the arrows in this image? There are two screws in the white part of the bracket behind the flywheel and another two behind the carburetor on the blue bracket there. Are those the ones you are referring to?

The covers themselves each have two screws holding them on. I can get them screwed in on both sides but I am left with a mis-aligned set of covers.

Here's a few more pictures. Something must be bent but I didn't think the aluminum castings would bend without cracking. Pay particular attention to how far off the centering of the slow speed needle is. Crazy.

At the rear; alignment is nearly perfect. Any suggestions for what to do? If I had a second motor I'd start swapping the mounting brackets one by one to see what difference it would make.

It looks like you're missing a screw on the front left side there, just above your left arrow. You will want to get all the bolts in and likely need to loosen them up to get them to align.

Sorry about the miss info SeaK, I was thinking of a different mtr. Follow Zeph's advice and you should be okay.
