I just picked up this boat with a 1964 Evinrude 40hp outboard on it. The engine itself runs great! The only problem is the prop hub needs replacing and I can't find one anywhere for this year. I know I've seen a post with this same question before but I can't find it now that I need it! Can anyone tell me where I can buy parts for an old motor or where I can cross reference to get the part I need?

If it is the hub that is gone, it'd probably be easier and cheaper just to replace the prop itself. They're not hard to find. Just match up the diameter and pitch to the one you have (assuming it is the correct match to your rig and load conditions). I'm pretty sure your local Johnrude dealer can get the prop new and you can probably find several on eBay at any given time. I believe iboats has aftermarket versions available, too...

Re: 1964 40HP Evinrude

I saw this thread posting and am jumping in with my own questions. I have an Evinrude 40hp of that vintage and need to make up fuel line that is compatible with newer topside fuel tanks and the connector that fits the Evinrude. Any idea where I can purchase an Evinrude compatible fuel line connector?

Also would like to confirm that my motors arein fact a 40HP and what year. My father thought they were 25hp. Only info I have is what I think is a serial No. of E03421. Actually have two of these engines that came on a 1964 Evinrude Sweet 16 boat, if that helps identify the engines.

Would appreciate any info anyone can provide.

replacing a hub in not a DIY project. that it to a prop shop. or buy a new prop.

Re: 1964 40HP Evinrude

I just got a 1964 40 hp evinrude with elecic shift. I was testing the motor. I put in trash can of water. It starts right up. There was no water coming out the upper exhaust port. I pulled the lower unit and the impeller looks to be in great shape. Any ideas? what directions shoud the fins be going? How do I know when the water pump is working correctly?

How deep was the motor in the can? I think the water level needs to be above the impeller before it can prime the pump.
