This is my first restoration project and am somewhat new to boating. Looking for help and tips during the process.

Has anyone ever seen the hull and cap stapled together and the rub rail not glued in??

Decided today to remove the cap for easy access to everything. The floor and transom are mush so should come out easy(knock on wood). The floor is curved almost fitting the shape of the hull so am interested to see what I find under the fiberglass. I can see the outline of something running up the middle of the hull but can imagine alot of stingers and bulkheads.

So after cutting a piece of the fiberglass up I found spongy wood in small blocks but no stringers except a piece running up the keel, The fiberglass bottom is right under but very soft to walk on even hear slight cracking sounds. Let me know what advice anyone has, I plan on taking up the floor to the tip and the transom without being in the boat much and then laying fiberglass down to reinforce everything then work on the transom adding a stringer up the keel and adding bulkheads.

Welcome to the Balsa core conundrum. mine was completely saturated and to save the boat was completely removed and rebuilt- lots of time and patience to do it right- Almost makes me want to do a tinner next time-

So the cap is off but lost the rub rail in the process, the staples came off pretty easy,
