Greetings!!.
Anyone got a wiring diagram for electric start on this engine i.e the wiring from the battery, ignition switch etc.
Also, theres a fuel pipe going from the carb to the side of the top cylinder. There is a hole in the same place on the bottom cylinder but no pipe. Is there supposed to be one or is it meant to be blanked off or what?. HELP!!!
Regards.
Tich

Hi Tich
We need a model # in order to give you the correct info. There were several differnt 40hp models in 64. Some were electric shift, some had hot water choke, some had it all, etc.

prior to 1964 the choke was water heated, in 1964 it was changed to a hot air type. That tube is the hot air tube for the choke. Also Big Twins were mechanical shift and the electic shift models were called Larks. Larks did exist as mechanical shift models before the electric shift was offered.

Re: 1964 Bigtwin 40hp Evinrude

Hi again chaps!
The model number is 40402s, serial number (if it helps)is c398405.
If I may, a couple of other questions.
I need a new rubber seal for the engine cover but cant seem to get one anywhere. Any ideas?
Also, looking at the gear shift side of the engine there is a fuel pipe that comes from the carburretor to the side of the top cylinder. There is a corresponding hole in exactly the same place on the bottom cylinder but no pipe. The hole is not blanked off so am I right in assuming that there is another pipe, which is missing. ?????
Would send a photo but not sure if thats allowed on this forum.
Regards
Tich

It is of 1964 vintage. As I said in my previous post the tube is the hot air tube for the choke. The lower hole in the exhaust cover is where air enters a manifold located in the exhaust passage, is heated, then exits via the tube in the top hole.
