What is the trick in removing a stubborn Flywheel whithout smashing the B ----out of it <br />Just kidding < I have a spark im not happy with so I thought I would take a look. Can you do the points without removing the flywheel<br />What is the gap and the poundage on the main nut TA very much- Wenham<br />Have a mery Xmas

Get your puller setup at maximum tightness without pulling threads out, the beat the B ---- out of the puller instead of the flywheel. LOL A few good raps on the main puller head with a good size hammer should pop it loose.<br /><br />

Hello.<br />Some of these old flywheels have a little "window" that sits a bit off the center.I am not sure the '64s still have it, but if you do, you can just loosen two small screws and take off a small cover. This window will sit right above the points, enabling you to see what they look like. For replacing them you will still need to take the flywheel off.

Do like Waterloo suggested. Tighten the puller bolt tight. Give it a good rap straight down, then tighten it again and hit it again. Repeat sequence until flywheel come off.

Hi Wenham<br /><br />A trick i have tried, when needed. Some of these old gems have vertical play in cranck. Get someone to lift flywheel when you hit puller with your hammer. You avoid placing force on cranck and bearings, then. Good luck.

I like to give it a shot Kroil (penetrating oil)and let that sit over night and then go after the puller bolt with a 1/2" drive air impact wrench.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

I like gdane's approach which will help to protect your bearings when striking the puller, just be sure that the person/device holding the engine off the floor by the flywheel can catch it when the flywheel releases.

Do you have the correct tools?<br /><br />OMC made a heavy-duty flywheel puller set and a flywheel holder. Local dealers should still be able to get them. With those two tools and a large breaker bar on the nut, it should pop right off.

ok heres a quick way to remove it! place some plywood under the flywheel and above the power real tight then hit the top of the crank shaft (loosen the flywheel nut and put it on top so you don't smash in the threads) then Wacke it hard with a good hammer! it will push the crank shaft down a bit but the power head can move so it loosens it self!
