Re: 1964 Evinrude Starflite 75hp
So I think I may see the problem as well. I didn't notice it before but it was running previously with this key switch. But mine has the following S,M1,M2,A. So I'm not sure why it was running before compared to picture that show shows a key switch I,S,B. I will look into the voltmeter tomorrow and see. I knows it tough without much information but thanks a lot for all your help.
OK, have you had time to ponder on my previous post yet? Here is a BIG clue. You said the ammeter does not move when you turn the key on. That means electricity is not flowing through it to the red wires on the key switch. Why not?? Probably because there is none present at the green and brown wires. OR the fuse is blown. OR there is a problem with the battery cables.
1. Check BOTH battery cables. Shiny bright clean and tight?
2. Check voltage at green wire on ammeter. Should be 12V. If not, find out why not.
3. If you have 12V on brown wire on key switch, check voltage on the red wires stack when key turned on. Should be 12V. If not, but you do have it on the brown wire, bad key switch.
