I am extremely new at outboards, however, I have never come across something I couldn't figure out after a bit of googling/asking and just tinkering.. So, I'm tackling this headon so I can sell the boat, knowing it's safe to put in the water for the next owner.

My problem is, I cannot find a manual for the 1964 version of my engine. I found this:

http://www.recrepairinfo.com/index.php?cPath=25_64_112&osCsid=vniaog1b0l5m0jtvkjoleekfk3

Based off another thread (1966 was his) and they have 3 manuals available.. I don't know for sure if any of those 3 match my engine, but

1964 MERCURY MERCRUISER 2.5L 151 4-CYL REPAIR MANUAL

seems the closest. I know my year (1964) is correct as well as it being a "Merc 650" but a bit lost beyond that. Any confirmation would help! I want to keep this thread alive for the quick/efficient rebuild. I'm out of work, and this will help us next month with rent.. Blah. Thank you all!

Thank you for that response. I may be a sitting duck on this one.. I don't have the necessary $$$ to be throwing into an expensive (over $10 bucks) service manual to get the thing running to turn around and sell for low $$$. I see $5.00 manuals all over the net, just nothing that fits my model. I'm out of a job, and every penny counts right now.

My biggest frustration is, I can't figure out where the water is supposed to come out the pee-hole. There are many drain holes on the thing, and after taking off the lower unit, I can see the copper pipe running vertically up, but can't locate the exit.. Assumption being that it runs through the head somehow and then ejects out.. Even a small diagram showing where the exit is, would work wonders.

I checked impeller, and it's new looking, no cracks, dings, dents or wear.. The water comes out the top, but it kind of just "comes out" instead of a particular spot.. If that makes sense.. It's plugged or something.

So, I was kind of right, but also way wrong.. The 65-68's I saw in the videos, when looking at the back of the boat, the pee is on the right. The video you showed me, the pee is on the left. I didn't see your video until a second ago, however, I tilted the engine up and looked at all the "Drain holes" under it (about 4 or so) and only one on the left side looked like it was pointing away from the engine. Grabbed a piece of weed whacker string and tried pushing it through.. no dice. Tried using air compressor on that side, nothing.. Then, went with air compressor from the bottom tube up, and you could hear the air flowing through the engine.. We took a drill bit and a pick and just started hand turning each, kind of chipping away at old dirt/grime.. Ended up clearing it out alternating between the air compressor and the tools.. It now is extremely clear, and once lower unit is back on, I'm pretty sure we'll have water flowing! I'm excited!

However, i also need to replace a seal on the shaft coming from the lower unit.. It looks like a little oring or something.. it was shredded.. So, off to the marine shop in the morning! I really, really appreciate the help! This is working..
