1964 Westfield Custom

So I just got a 1964 Westfield Custom. I know nothing about boats.

The floor appears to be metal and looks to have some holes where the original seats were mounted. Should these holes be filled?

In the back there is a recessed spot on the right that has a hole for draining and just to the left of that is a si,ilar sized hole that appears to be homemade where the bilge pump is mounted. Is this correct?

Any idea of a ballpark figure for transom repair if I have it done?

I've managed to get a really good shine back on the finish.

I intend to repaint the inside. What paint works best for this?

Welcome , SLF . Lots of good people here, and very helpful with the info too.
The transom project can be done by most handy people with basic tools. Do a search on "Seacast" . I believe Mark42 did a write up , check the link in his post under the picture of his Niagra . He has detailed a lot of projects he has done. The metal floor sounds like a do-over that needs a do-over . Over all MFG made a great boat , solid and reliable once made rite again! Here's how it looks so far. New paint on the bottom and a lot of rubbing on the top. New transom and the motor is getting a thorough check. In the fall I'll paint the inside and replace the ski racks. Somewhere along the line the trailer will need replaced too.

Nice boat. I love these old MFGs. I need a wider boat for fishing and have consider several builds, and might do one this summer, but I just can't seem to part with the old MFG. Thanks for the pics!

You're making great progress on the boat!! Did you replace the transom? Great job on that blue topside gelcoat! How did you get it to shine?

Yes. I replaced the transom. Cut out the inside and replaced with wood. Reglassed inside and out.

Shine is due to LOTS of elbow grease and my orbital buffer. I've got a bit more to do and it has not been waxed/polished yet.

My father ran an auto detail shop so i'm familiar with restoring old finishes but as someone that had never even thought about owning a boat until late last year, everything else is learning as I go.

Well I gotta say that for someone that's never worked on a boat before you're doing better than most! Setting a good pace too! Keep it up, you're doing a hel! of a job!

You didn't mention what type of motor you have. Also, can you take a picture of the 'aftermarket' bilge pump installation? I'm going to put one in my Westfield and need some ideas.

Motor is a 1960 75hp Evinrude. I just had it gone through and everything fixed up and it's being reinstalled this week. I'll take bilge shot when I get it back.

I may get this thing wet this year!
