I can't find a fuel pump for my motor. When I got it, it was totally missing. Any help would be aprreciated. Also wondering on fuel oil mixture on 1965 5hp. And yet another question, I don't seem to get any spark when pulling rope, what could it be, I'm more familiar with automobile engines, and this is my first tear down of an outboard....Thanks in advance

Fuel Pump Part number 388685

50:1 oil Mixture or about 2.5 ounces of TCW-3 oil to 1 Gal. gas.

Set and check points. Set at .020. Spark plug is J6C. Set gap at .030. Could also be the coil is weak or bad. Have it checked at a lawnmower repair shop. I'd be looking at the points first for signs of corrosion and clean them up as needed and set gap. Then go from there.

If it were my motor, I would not run it at 50:1. That motor has bronze babbit bearings on the crankshaft mains and would be much happier with a bit more oil, either at a 40:1 or 32:1 (preferred) mix. I know the factory recoomendation is 50:1, but my experience has shown that they like it a little richer...
- Scott

Hi, Fishhunter.

RB gives good advice. Don't overlook the condensers. A shorted condenser will disable the magneto.

re: No spark. Your engine has two magnetos that share only the cam and flywheel. If the points, condenser and coil of each are good you problem is probably either the kill circuit or something else keeping both sets of points grounded or a sheared flywheel key throwing the timing off enough to prevent spark.

As Chinewalker points out, all OMC engines built in 1964 and later call for a 50:1 mix, even though a few continued to use sleeve bearings on the mains and the small end of the con rods. You will do no harm using a richer mix.

Good luck. :)

Hi Chinewalker

Maybe you could post a small article on which engines after 1964 should use a richer mixture. There seems to be a lot of questions about this subject and you seem to know what is what. I'm sure others would appreciate the advice. Whadda ya think??
