1965 90 johnson

I was out on the lake and shut down the engine to fish when i turned it back on and went to put it in forward i got nothing then tried reverse and got nothing,you can hear it thud when you try to put it in the gear but nothing happens any ideas? thanks

so u think it when it gear when u throttled it did it doing anything or just rev up?


propably ur prop needs to be rehubed not a hard job. take prop off then make a line with a sharper where the hub is and then put motor in gear and see if it slips. worst case senoario bad gears/ clutch dog:eek:

no it just reved up. if it was the clutch dog would the prop spin cause it isn't, no movement in the prop u just hear it pop a little but no movement nothing happens and the motor doesnt idle down at all like it would if it was in gear

It doesn't have a clutch dog. It is Electramatic shift. Probably a broken shift switch in the control. The arm is known to fall off of them.

EDIT: Cheer up, a new shift switch is only about $450.00---IF you can find one.

Where is the shift switch located that you are talking about because i did hear it try to go into gear. I also looked at the switch itself but it is fairly new...
