Anybody that knows anything would know that the 40hp extension you need is totally different.

Och ja, it's a goddamn quest (to quote Chevy Chase). But that's the fun of it. If the eBay stuff isn't right, search your area for outboard boneyards. I've had favorite sources in every area of the country in which we lived -- have to admit that gets a little more limited as I've gotten older. I miss it. (Call American Outboards on the eastern shore of Maryland, and ask for Dora. And if you get into that area, stop in and get into the acres of "back stock".)

I struck out on four more discussions with marinas some of New York some in Michigan. The extension shaft and transmission shaft and two water tubes have to be aftermarket correct? My other option is to get a CMC tilt trim that steps back 6 in which may put me at the proper height. or I'll take a nice video of this motor purring with its electric start and controls and sell it on eBay

Nothing is aftermarket. There were thousands of long shaft motors directly from the factory.

Search e-bay for 308334, lots of them available. Of course, that is only one part of what you need.

I've seen that and have 1 I can purchase. I was confused with the slide you showed of the " dummy" 2 piece shroud.
Ok..so any 20" shaft evinrude ,shift rod , drive shaft and water pipe ( I'll need 2)from 66 - 70 will work with what I am trying to do here.

I think the "dummy" piece he mentioned was the spacer #68, and the o-rings that go on it. You are in for a surprise if you leave it out---and lots of troubleshooting to figure out why it won't run. As for the split shroud, that is only decorative and you can do without it.

lol. I'm doing this backwards of course. I should have done the research first. I didn't think I'd be grinding like this myself ..but all the responses have helped me move forward, Thanks. $150 installed... that would be sweeet,

What motor did that shaft come out of? Hopefully not yours. Whatever it came out of has rusted-out crankshaft splines. And what's with the sleeve?
