Hi, newbie here I have a 1965 Evinrude 33 hp with a messed up lower unit. A friend gave me a 1966 Evinrude 40 hp are the lower units interchangeable??

No. The cooling system in the two motors is different. The 40hp engine includes a water pump that has two water tube outlets, while the 33hp has one. The castings are different, as well. If you can't find a 33hp gearbox, look for one from a 28hp.

Somone just gave me a Glastron 14 ft boat with a 33 horse evinrud outboard, package deal when new I think. The person never used it, the previous owners tried to get it running no succes. Is it worth a shot at trying to revive it.

You should start your own thread with this question... But to get a free boat and engine is great... If the engine turns over and has compression, it can be fixed relatively cheaply...
