Re: 1965 Evinrude Big Twin

I think that is the beginning of where my ignorance began, so that extra button was a "choke" button and not to engage the starter? I am going to buy the correct ignition and I'll post up again when I complete getting that in there. The wiring from the junction box to the engine is baffling too.

I really appreciate the help everyone and I know that just reading some of the stuff I write is causing your palms to open and your face to lay down within only to shake in the "no" fashion. I assure you that I am putting in LOTS of leg work on this and have been reading so much, so please don't think that I am just relying on all of you for everything.

Heck, I must be despicably lazy...... I just rely on F-R and Joe for everything!!!!!:D Welcome to iboats. You've got the best there is helping you on your motor.

Hm.m.mm., hibbing site never asks me to log in. Maybe it did the first time I went there, I don't remember. Can you get to the Small Engine Repair page? I see there is a Sign In link at the top. Click on that and it takes you to where you can create a new account. Try it and report back here if it works.

Yeah I can get to the page with the small engine repair link, but when I click that it brings me to a page with an authorization fail and code. The login at the top left of THAT page is not a link, it just says login. Thanks for lookign into it for me though

Well, I don't know what to tell you. I just now tried it on my wife's computer and got right in and she has never visited that site and her computer is not registered.

The site is the Hibbing, Minnesota Public Library. You might call them and ask what you need to do. (218) 362-5959

The fact that a generator isn't present may or may not indicate ther shift mode. If a mechanical shift model, there will be a shift lever on the starboard side of the engine. Let me know.

Okay, I'll see what I can do to get a complete OMC wiring diagram to you this evening if possible.

Ok so I have made some progress and wired in the new ignition and got the junction box all wired up and clean. So at this point I have a big harness going into the engine and was hoping that someone would be able to help. I figured the diagram would make it easier to understand. First, this pic is what I have going into the engine compartment. My first questin would be, what does the wire leaving the solonoid to the engine connect to?

Then I have the two black wires. From what I read this is a photo of the cutoff switch. Not sure where the two wires connect but if I had to guess, one would connect to the wire leading up into the engine and the other in the center of the cutoff switch??

and lastly, is this where the choke wire would go?

Thanks for any help you can give me and I PROMISE I have been scouring the internet for wiring to the engine diagrams and cannot find anything. I would even buy it if I could but I couldn't. I have been driving myself crazy with this project but I feel that I am almost there!
