I have a new to me, 1965 Johnson Seahorse 60HP V-4 , 2 Cycle motor that I can't figure out how to tilt. Also, I noticed that some type of locking/release handle is broken off. I have attached pics. My guess is that this handle was key to me being able to lock and unlock before tilting. If I am correct, any ideas on how to replace the handle or figure out a work around? Any info you can proivide is much appreciated.Photo_F7EE5281-3CE0-0409-1ACB-287728874AE6.jpgPhoto_217DB574-1F70-5CDF-D465-9120C20DE78B.jpgPhoto_9E1844D0-9025-F5BD-25F2-BA71079D318F.jpgPhoto_C983F842-A859-69CF-FC8C-38FC795557F6.jpgPhoto_42C42B8E-649F-CB73-8CC9-95C088077820.jpgPhoto_F7EE5281-3CE0-0409-1ACB-287728874AE6.jpgPhoto_217DB574-1F70-5CDF-D465-9120C20DE78B.jpgPhoto_9E1844D0-9025-F5BD-25F2-BA71079D318F.jpgPhoto_C983F842-A859-69CF-FC8C-38FC795557F6.jpgPhoto_42C42B8E-649F-CB73-8CC9-95C088077820.jpg

Re: 1965 Johnson Seahorse 60HP Manual Tilt Issue/Question

View attachment schematic.pdfAfter a little more research, I have discovered that this part is "Lever, manual, rev. lock, original part number 307231. Can anyone tell me if this a key part to me being able to raise and lower (tilt) the motor? If so, what are my options short of locating the exact part, to being able to tilt the motor? Any help is appreciated. Schematic attached.

Thanks,

Yes that is a critical part in getting the reverse lock out to release. Number 56 on the schematic. No tilting without releasing the reverse lock out. (keeps the motor from flipping up while in reverse)

For now, you'll have to manually push down on the #56 bracket, (the one with the spring between the motor & transom mount) and lift at the same time to tilt.

Finding a replacement "flipper" may be a search. With a little creativity, I'm sure one could be fabricated. Just need enough leverage to over come the reverse lock out spring.

Brings back memories of my 1960 40hp Johnson. Shaved Hockey pucks for motor mounts, fabbing my own trim stop, building my own wiring harness, bracket to secure rewind housing, grinding the clutch dogs so it wouldn't skip as much, etc.
