I just bought a "new" 1965 Johnson 6hp CD-22M. No instruction manual (Not a surprise). Could someone tell me how to set the lean/rich adjustment to start the motor? And what to do after it gets started? The guy I bought it from said it took him some fooling around with the adjustment knob to get it going, and that afterwards it ran well. I would just like to know how to set it right the first time.

And any other advice you could give a first time owner would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

Re: 1965 Johnson startup help

Turn it all the way in till GENTLY seated, then back it out 1 1/2 turns. Start the motor and let it warm up, then while at slow idle turn the needle in till it starts to falter or sneeze, then back it back out till it runs smooth again. Then once you are satisfied, leave it alone.
