I need help fixing this lower unit. I can move the long shaft unless I pull up on it a little. Can someone tell me how these work? Or if it might be frozen in there cause there wasnt a speck of oil when I pulled it apart. Dutch

Please clarify, you took the drain plug off the gearcase and no oil came out? The oil is should be in the large buldge around the propshaft where the gears are.

Can you turn the prop shaft at all?

There is quite a few parts inside the gearcase (see pic), and certainly they are prone to seizing if left stored for long periods without lubrication.

The fact that you need to 'pull up' on the driveshaft to turn it, sounds like perhaps the propshaft/bearings are seized or damaged.

Either the ball bearing under the w/pump hsg. is bad or the needle brgs. above the pinion gear are shot. Remove the carrier nut and carrier, then the pinion nut and lock, if you have not removed the w/pump hsg. do it now, when put the driveshaft in a vise and knock the hsg. off the shaft

Sorry, but.........NO WAY that drive shaft is going to come out until you remove the propshaft carrier then remove the pinion nut and gear on the bottom end of the driveshaft.

The very first thing you need to do is get your hands on a manual!!!!!!
