Well I got the transom cap off and UH OH comes to mind. Not good at all. To replace this wood am I going to need to remove engine and or the outdrive? And also on the picture of the side of the outdrive, what is the purpose of the black screw head? I removed it and put it back in, nothing happens when out, and it won't go all the way in. By the way what kind of oil should be used for the outdrive? Thanks again,

Also I any ideas what this is? It looks like a pump, it was mounted to the transom and its plumbed somewhere under the flywheel housing/outdrive, with the solenoid. And it says it uses Type A transmission fluid.

I have the same boat and have customized it. I have rebuilt it entirely with wood decking, gun hull, and rear swim deck. It will be fully restored by the end of the month.
