Hello, I'm starting to do some work on the old boat so i thought i would document it here. I've had it now for about 6 months and used it all summer. But, the floor, transom are showing some rot so I'm going to fix her up. I'm going to put in some new seats, carpet and side panels. I may do something with the dashboard also. Here it is when i first got her home.

Here is how it sits a little earlier this evening.

I took the controls off after I took the pics. Tomorrow I am going to take it to a shop to have the motor taken off and have a professional take a look at it. It seems to be leaking gas and I don't know outboards at all.

Welcome to the Starmada, the place for all things Starcraft. You are on the right track for replacing the deck and transom, it's a pretty straightforward job. I would also recommend gluvit for the rivets and seams just as cheap insurance.

I would guess that one of your carb floats is stuck causing the gas leak. Might as well have the carbs gone through, do the file pumps and replace the fuel lines.

Good looking boat you got there!

that's the plan right there. Love the paint job on your boat bunker, thinking of doing something close to mine.

Hi 65SC - Good starting point. Looks like after the deck/transom work it's all down hill. We might be able to suggest something other than carpet to cover the deck, like Nautolex. That old Merc should move her arounf real nice. Welcome to the drydock.

cool old boat, and welcome to da mob from another 65 Holiday owner. is that a 16 or 18'?

i didn't use to know outboards at all. there's nothing easier to learn enginewise....2 stroke premix outboard is about the simplest engine and the simplest transmission you'll ever see. and understanding how it works gives you a lot of confidence when you're out on the water. see if your local community college has classes.

where are you located?

I've seen you guys talking about that nautolex, gonna have to check this stuff out more. Thanks She was running about 30-35 WOT this summer hopefully get it running a little better and bump that up some more. That was registered by the original speedo.

She's an 18 footer. I'm in N.W. Ohio, The Muddy maumee river and the western basin of lake erie. I've checked out the local c.c. website a little, but i didn't see anything like that. It would be great to learn outboards, probably for the same price i would pay a mechanic to work on it.

Speaking of that mechanic, he cancelled on me today. So, I got the floor out.

Well you passed the the first test. Tore the deck out of a perfectly good boat. LOL Looks like styrofoam blocks - no poured foam, good. Check out EZ's SS in his sig. He used the Nautolex and has nothing but good to say about it and it looks great.

Well I finally got the boat back yesterday after taking it to have the motor removed. So I got the transom out last night.

While I have the transom out. Do you think it would be a good idea to gluvit the rivets holding the outer skin on?
