Hello all,

Just picked up a 1965 tbird 16 footer with a 4 cyl volvo penta and 270 out drive.

A couple of questions.

Starter - hooked it up last night and the previous owner had used some creative wiring ( household
electrical twin switch plate for starter/ battery ) Unfortunately before applying the juice
my neighbor did not see that the starter was miswired and it fried.
I was going to scrap out the boat and sell the trailer but the motor does turn and the drive shifts well.
That combined with a rock solid transom makes me think maybe I'll perhaps put her back on the water.
With that in mind, how do I identify the motor I have ?

Boat identification ?
The title says tbird. Not sure if that's a standard abbreviation for thunderbird/formula
or is tbird is a separate manufacturer ? Cannot find any mention of this boat anywhere til this point.
Its a 16 foot bowrider . Looks a lot like a bayliner capri from the 80's or 90's but it's a 1965.
It actually says "TBIRD" on the boat. ( I've had thunderbirds before - this does not have that logo )

I am at work and it looks like rain for the next couple of days so I can't go look for serial numbers for a while.

Any help very much appreciated.

Thanks !

You should really break your post up into 2 posts, one here in the Volvo forum about your engine, and another in the Boat topics (not engine) forum about your boat ID. People may know the boat, but nothing about engines, so would never look here. It will probably take more than one blurry picture to ID the boat.

As far as what engine you have, post some (CLEAR) pictures of the the engine if you can't find any tags on the engine. Many times the engines on that old of boat have been replaced.
