Tach does not appear to be functioning at all, so I would like to troubleshoot from the engine forward. Where is the connection for the tach signal on the engine?

What kind of ignition do you have on that thing? Is it the automotive-style battery/distributor type or the magneto type or something else?

1966 100 hp should have battery ignition and the tach lead should come off of the coil. Unless you have a tach that came off of a spark plug lead.

Problem seems to be at the tach. 2 of the four wires were cut and I don't know where the other 2 attach. We'll see what I can do. Its a Starcraft Holiday, in case anyone has a clue what I should do.

Re: 1966 100-s tach connection

I found a wiring diagram online for my o/b, as well as an installation guide for the Airguide tach (model 654-A). When connecting the appropriate tach lead to the gray wire under the dash, there is no response from the tach. I tested directly off the coil using my Sears engine analyzer and got a steady 900rpm with the selector switch in the 8cyl position. I'm going to try the analyzer attached to all the leads under the dash later this afternoon. If I get any results, I know that it is the Airguide that is dead. I'm still not 100% that its the tach itself. There may be a break in the gray wire somewhere. Either way, I'll have it figured out this afternoon.

Anyone know what the idle rpm should set at? Until my manual arrives, I'm just going off ear. Thanks!
