1966 18hp evinrude flywheel removal NIGHTMARE

For the life of me I can not get this flywheel off Ive done tons of them this one has me beat.
tryed puller
tapping and prying
heated it up
its been 4 days of trying for about 20min then I walk away
any secrets? the problem is I only have spark to one cylinder thinking a coil or points issue. there is not inspection cover on this flywheel

Can you tell if the crankshaft key has been partly or totally sheared?

All you can do is keep at it. Keep the puller tight.
have someone life on the flywheel while you Smack the puller center bolt HARD. Tighten more and repeat. Even a fraction of a turn gain on the puller is heading in the right direction.

I had to use a ratchet strap around the flywheel resting against the head to hold mine enough to get a little extra oomph in the puller bolt.

You are not using the flat foot on the puller are you? might be to large in diameter holding the flywheel down.

That flywheel should be a snap to remove if done properly.

Puller must be the type that incorporates three (3) bolts that screw into the threaded holes surrounding the crankshaft.

Center puller spindle must be tightened down securely..... very tight!

A slight bit of pressure should be applied to the bottom edge of the flywheel to raise it off the play measurement.

The center pulley spindle should then be hit straight down with a great amount of force..... really belt it hard!

Any other type of removal attempt usually results in problems.

Applying heat was a mistake...... not to be done.

yeah I have the 3 screws in the holes type puller even put liquid wrnch for days!!!!!!!! and it will not budge. everyone Ive ever done its a breeze little tap and lifes good this one could be a anchor motor to bad it was a good runner Im about done with it Ive walked away for the day maybe try again this evening

Some cretin probably put Locktite on it. Good luck.

If you're gonna walk away from it then it's time to really get rough! Try an impact driver on the puller. I've never tried it but hear it works. Or get a helper to really tighten it down while one holds.

i have had them take a week or more to come off. a strap wrench, to go around flywheel, and a cheater bar on puller wrench. tap center bolt with hammer, then tighten some more. i do it every couple of hours. they will finally pop, or the bolts pull out.

also make sure the puller center bolt is in line with the crank, a straight pull is a must.
