1966 18hp Evinrude Tilt Adjustment

Does anybody know if there is a adjustment that can tighten up the manual tilt on my motor? I would like to be able to tilt it up and have it stay, for trailering, ect. As it is right now it will fall down if tilted up. Just wondering.<br /><br />Thanks<br />DC

Should be a Lever that holds it up.

Rick I thought there would be some kind of support too, there's not, I have looked many times. I also have a friend with a 1966 Johnson 20hp(same motor) his will stay in the up position, but only because of friction. To this day I still cant figure out how to tighten up the bracket. <br /><br />dc

My 1974 15 HP Johnson has a adjustment for tension but that adjustment is really for if you hit a log or something in the water. Mine will lock in the up postion with a lever. Unless you motor is too close to the ground better to trailer with it down anyway. Less strain on the transom. There is one other way to hold motor up. It is called a TRANSOM SAVER. Basicly it is a rod with a fork on each end. You put the fork on the motor between the Prop and the Caviation plate and sucure it with a bungy cord. The other end fork goes over the back keel roller and is also held in place with a bungy cord.
