what do you think worth a decarb? good spark, clean carb. no sign of overheat. no history.

I'd say your rings are rusted in place on the pistons.

Assuming the head gasket is ok, probably stuck rings. Not much to lose by trying the chemical route, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work.

I usually call for 60psi or better on rope start engines, but even that expects some flaws in technique. I don't expect those flaws from TD.

I would try a decarb. If that didn't work the main suspect becomes the head gasket. . .between the jugs.

Does the engine run?

Completely off subject, but what happened with the other motor that was "driving you to drink?"

Well TD it was you who suggested a decarb. on my 4HP. I was bugged I didn't get much smoke but a few days later I re-checked the compression on it, was up almost 15 lbs. per cylinder. I'd give it a try for sure. Thanks again. Rick.

I've got seafoam soaking in the cylinders.

The problem motor i have sent to the Bro in law, who is a certified tech, in New Syrmirna.

Finger is doing fine, likes oil and grease, i change bandage several time a day. thanks, for asking.

got it started, did decarb in barrel, found tstat stuck. destroyed tstat cover, cover welded on, tstat is disintegrated parts. wire brushed housing, and flushed. waiting for parts.

Sounds to me like it was run in the brine and not flushed, Nothing eats a head gasket like sitting salt.

this one was not the head gasket, it was the little triangle cover on the head.

got the compression up to 60 psi on both cylinders, started and ran good. couple of more treatment, it should be fine.
