Hello Everyone,

I'm having a little problem getting this engine to turn on. I purchase this engine 1 week ago at a yard sale and the guy told me the last time he ran it was about 6 months ago. Well I mount this on my skiff and hook it all up and it wont start. I took apart the fuel pump and its toast! So much rust inside there is no way gas would pass through there to the carb. I wonder if it sat longer than 6 months? Anyways, anyone know where I can get a new replacement one or a re-build kit for it? Any model No. of another pump that might work? I've tried www.vintageoutboard.com and had no luck there. Thanks for your help in advance.

Any dealer will have the replacement pump for it. (It's been superseeded with a newer pump).

If your rebuilding the fuel pump. Make sure it goes back together just the way it came appart. I did mine on my 72, 9.5. Its really not hard to do. There is a thread here on iboats on how to do this. It use to be on top of this page.

if the fuel pump was that bad take a look at the spark also and compression. If it does not have spark at the very least it might be glazed points. Could also be bad coils or condenser. Need to replace the impeller before running it also. Although I will start them in a barrel and see if they are pumping, but even then I always replace the impeller. At least then I know what I have. Never a good idea to just put one from a garage sale on a boat and just run it. You will find yourself in the middle of the lake paddling for shore.
