can anyone tell me where the rectifiers are on both 64 75hp and 66 80hp and can they be interchanged, and where do the wires go,
Ive rewired the 66 and all is good but how to wire the rectifier is got me stumped and my wire diagram shows nothing.

Thanks Steve

Re: 1966 and 1964 80 and 75hp Johnson rectifier problem

Depends. You haven't given any model numbers to ID what you have. However:

1964 75hp has rectifier diodes in the junction box---IF it is electric shift.
1966 80hp has rectifier diodes on the flywheel guard---IF it is electric shift.

1964 and 1966 Manual Shift motors do not have rectifiers because they have DC generators--IF they have any charging system at all. It was an accessory.

Re: 1966 and 1964 80 and 75hp Johnson rectifier problem

thanks that should help but just in case hears the model #s
v4al-16d is 1964 and v4al-18c is the 1966.
and how do you know if the rectifier or stator is bad?
ive got about 12.6 volts to the coil and no spark, and the weird thing i cant figure out is I have like 16 volts at the main plug the red wire , im thinking somthing is feeding back.
Any ideas?
Steve
