1966 Duo x15 restoration

Hello I have a 1966 Duo x15 I am about to start to work on. I am going to have to replace the transom. I was wondering if anyone out there that has done this has any advice, pictures, or input that would help? I know there is at least one person out there that has done this to this exact boat but I guess the thread was too old and was closed. One thing I definitely have a question about is: There are rivets that hold the top on I was told to get the top off to drill them out. No problem But then how do I get the top back on?
I would also love to connect to any other Duo owners out there I know there aren't many if you have one let me see some picture. I am including pictures of my boat with a had a pic of the transom but I don't right now I will have to get one.

There are rivets that hold the top on I was told to get the top off to drill them out. No problem But then how do I get the top back on?

That's what I figured. But I wasn't sure if there was a certain kind or way or doing it. I consider my self fairly handy but I have never worked with rivets before. I don't even know if there even is more than one kind lol. Or if there is a better way to put them on. I have seen hand tools "guns" for putting them on but I didn't if this would be a strong enough hold or do i need some sort of power tool?

Ayuh,... Google rivets,... There's Alota different 1s...

All ya need is 3/16" aluminum rivets, long enough to grab, 'n pop 'em in, yes, with a pop-rivet gun...

Thank you I know that may seem like a dumb question but I really didn't know. I was more worried about the tool to use then the types. Thank you for your help. If anyone else has any other advice or a duo they have worked on I would love some tips and or tricks.

Welcome to iBoats!

Use a drill to drill em out, or a sharp chisel and punch to knock em out. When you go back on you can use a standard rivet tool like Bond-o suggested. Harbor Freight sells em and the rivets. I'd recommend using a marine grade sealant around the perimeter of the joint when you go back. Also take some good accurate measurements as she sits right now. You'll need to ensure that the hull does not flex and distort during your restoration. If it does and you have a new deck glassed in, the cap will not fit back on the boat. It's happened to several iBoaters in the past. Proper bracing of the hull during your restoration and your measurements will help ensure your success in this area.
