Hi, I recently got a motor, which some one in my street was throwing away. The guy said it was running fine last year (summer) and he started working on it and could not fix the flywheel problem he had. I took care of that already, but he had taking a few things apart and lost some nuts and screws. I have a manual and have put it all back together but I am having problems with the points system. I do not have a clear picture that show where the cables go. I have two magnetos, two points and two condensers, from the magneto there is a green cable that sticks out towards the points I have the black cable from the condenser and there is also a cable coming from underneath the plate about where the points are. Where do all this cables go? Any help will really be appreciated

Doesnt your manual show the wiring?
Basic wiring is the same for all the small motors.
Each magneto coil should have a wire that goes to
its set of points. And I a wire that goes to ground. There should be wires to the points
that go to the kill switch circuit.
As with most small outboards the motor runs
when the kill switch is open.Stops when the kill switch closes to ground.Kill switch wire may be black??
Circuit on lawnmower motor works similar.

Re: 1966 Evinrude 18HP Fastwin

I just went trhu this the other day when installing a kill switch on my 1966 fisherman. You can read my post "kill switch for 6hp evinrrude". But heres how it goes......The wire on the bottom side of the coil connects to the points. the wire on the top side of the coils gets grounded in a coil mounting screw. The wire from each condenser goes to each set of points. If you have any other wires inplace they go to an
ignition switch, dead man or kill switch, which are just wires that go to the switch from each set of points to the swicth in a normally open position.
Hope it helps :p
