I have a 1966 18hp Evinrude 2cyl (18602). Is it possible to convert this motor to have a electric starter?

Howdy, Duckcommander.

Yes. OMC offered a kit to convert the 18hp JohnnyRudes of that era. There is a chapter in the Johnson Service Manual, 10th Edition, published in 1964 that shows how to install it. Pages 502 to 509.

If you can't find a kit, all you need is the starter, wiring harness, junction box, choke solenoid and switch plate.

If that sounds like a lot of trouble, you might look for a blown JohnnyRude 18 Electric Start of the early to late '60s and switch the key parts.

Good luck. :)
