1966 evinrude help

hello.i am working on a 1966 3hp,2cyl evinrude lightwin outboard.having hard time making this motor to fire.the coil,spark plug and cable are good.carb is good.beside that what else will not allow the motor to run.maybe the point or condenser but not sure? i am not getting any spark.but i know the coil-plug-cable are good.

Have you cleaned and set the points?

Points rub block to exact high point on crank. Set point gap to .020
Set Flywheel in place and turn by hand to check for firing(spark plug out on motor)

one thing i did not mention before is that i replaced the old spark plug wire with regular new automobile spark plug wire.will regular automobile wire work?

No - you need solid copper (best) core wire.

That's probably your problem. You need solid core marine wires.
